Fire Prevention \
Education The San Luis Obispo Unit's education
component is an important key to all fire prevention efforts.
Teaching and informing citizens about all aspects of fire prevention
and fire protection is a never ending process for all employees.
Each year thousands of children and adults receive individual
training and exposure to fire safety issues; and each year the Fire
Prevention Bureau receives notices of "saves", life and property, as
a result of the fire safety training programs.

The Volunteers In Prevention
component makes it happen! San Luis Obispo Unit received permanent
funding in 1987 to establish a Volunteers In Prevention (VIP)
program. Citizen volunteers assist staff in program presentations
(schools, parades, senior programs, special projects). The VIP's
greatly enhance the Fire Prevention Bureau's successes.
Additionally, VIP's conduct fire prevention inspections, assist in
arson suspect surveillance, and serve as assistant public
information officers. The VIP's range from teenagers to seniors,
from all walks of life.
